Warning about Domain Registry of America 01/07/2010 I just got off the phone with a client who received a deceptive letter telling her she needed to renew her domain with this company or it would be lost. She couldn't remember what company she originally registered her domain with so was prepared to send in her money. Thankfully I got to speak with her before she did. The Domain Registry of America (DRoA) has been sending deceptive renewal notices to folks, like my client, whose domains are due to expire. They trick the unsuspecting into thinking they must renew their domain with them or it will be lost. These are misleading tactics to garner your business. Do not be fooled! Instead, do a little digging to find out who your actual Registrar is and renew your domain with them. A quick lookup of this company on Google reveals many crying scam! I have yet to find a website that speaks positively of this company. There has been lawsuits against this company for their tactics. Even the Federal Trade Commission website states...
If you receive a letter from Domain Registry of America, we strongly recommend you throw this letter away. Here is a sample letter:
We strongly encourage anyone who gets a letter from the Domain Registry of America or the Domain Renewal Group to report the company to your country’s consumer advocacy agency. Most Western and industrialized countries have an arm of the government dedicated to consumer advocacy.
